Description
Although originally described as a colon adenocarcinoma line established from a 78 year old female, DNA fingerprinting has shown this line to be a derivative of HT-29 (Chen TR, Drabkowski D, Hay RJ, Macy M, Peterson W Jr. 1987 WiDr cell line is a derivative of another colon adenocarcinoma cell line, HT-29. Cancer Genet Cytogenet. 27(1)125-34. PMID 3472642). HT29 was isolated from a primary colon adenocarcinoma in a 44 year old Caucasian female. The cells produce carcinoembryonic antigen and are tumorigenic in xenogeneic animals. They have been used in studies of anti-tumour agents.
