Description
Originally derived from an epidermoid carcinoma of the mouth of an adult male Caucasian. It was one of the early attempts to isolate and serially propagate a human cell line directly on glass as a monolayer. NB This cell line contains HeLa marker chromosomes and expresses type A G6PD. For further information see Nature 1976;259211; In Vitro 1978;14469. This cell line was found to be indistinguishable from HeLa by STR PCR DNA profiling. Therefore, the cell line should be considered as derived from HeLa. Ethnicity Black.
