Description
CFPAC-1 cell line is a ductal pancreatic adenocarcinoma derived by differential trypsinisation of explant cultures from a metastatic lesion in the liver of a 26 year old caucasian male with cystic fibrosis (CF). The cell line expresses cystic fibrosis trans-membrane regulator (CFTR) and ion transport properties consistent with the CF defect. CFPAC-1 cells show an epithelial morphology and polarisation with apical microvilli. Expression of cytokeratin and oncofoetal antigens characteristic of pancreatic duct cells have been described. The cells express the CF gene and show the most common CF mutation, deletion of three nucleotides result in a phenylalanine-508 deletion. CFPAC-1 cells are also tumorigenic in nude mice.
